Blue Bloods’ Tom Selleck Teases Return To Another Iconic Character After Final Season

Tom Selleck has hinted he could return to another popular series from before his Blue Bloods days – but it may not be the one you think.

Blue Bloods’ leading man Tom Selleck has been ruminating on the future of his career now CBS’s popular police procedural is coming to an end.

For over a decade, the former Magnum PI star has portrayed cop family patriarch Frank Reagan in all 14 seasons of the hit drama.

Millions of viewers were left devastated when it was announced that the upcoming installment, which will premiere later this month, would be the show’s last.

However, Tom isn’t ready to leave TV behind after filming the final eight episodes of Blue Bloods.

He recently teased a return to a popular character he portrayed before landing the role of Frank – and it’s not Thomas Magnum.

Five years before Blue Bloods’ 2010 debut, he starred in the made-for-TV crime thriller Jesse Stone: Stone Cold as the titular character, a small-town police chief.

Tom went on to star in nine TV movies based on the popular novels by Robert B Parker following the chief who solves cases in his fictional New England town of Paradise, Massachusetts.

The star also co-wrote several of the films in the series and was nominated for an Emmy Award for 2007’s Jesse Stone: Sea Change, so it’s certainly a role close to his heart.

He recently revealed he’s considering a comeback to the series, although admitted: “It looks like now I might have to write [the script].”

Although he did note, speaking to TV Insider: “It wouldn’t be a final one because everybody loves it.

“Jesse is a great character, and it would be fascinating to find out where he is quite a few years later.”

For the time being, Tom doesn’t have any other projects in the works, though the 79-year-old star promised he has no plans to start slowing down.

“I need to regroup [after Blue Bloods],” he added.

“I don’t know what’s next, but assuming the phone doesn’t stop ringing I’m going to keep working.”

Tom is still one of the most recognisable small-screen stars after his incredible 14-year stint on Blue Bloods, so there will undoubtedly be demand from fans to see him again once the Reagans sit down for their final Friday dinner.

The season 14, part two premiere will arrive in just over a week’s time, with the final curtain expected to drop before the end of 2024.

Blue Bloods returns Friday, October 18 on CBS.
