Luke Broderick Reveals Whether He Would Marry Kristen Doute: “Why Involve The Government?”

Jax Taylor spoke his mind on the Vanderpump Rules After Show about Kristen and Luke having a baby out of wedlock.

The Valley’s Luke Broderick is making one thing clear: He doesn’t need any outside help to decide when he’ll start a family.

Luke and girlfriend Kristen Doute sat for the Vanderpump Rules After Show to discuss all things love and marriage with the Vanderpump Rules cast. Kristen’s Colorado-based beau, sitting alongside The Valley’s Jasmine Goode and Zack Wickham, then got candid on the topic of saying, “I do.”

Will Luke and Kristen get married?

According to the outdoorsman, he and Kristen don’t need an official document to prove their love for one another.

“Everyone seemed to have the opinion that [marriage] was the right way to go, yet we see all these people getting divorced,” said Luke. “I’m like, ‘O.K., why involve the government in our choice to start a family?’ is kind of how I’m looking at marriage.”

Of course, two married The Valley couples have already called it quits ahead of the series premiere: Jax Taylor and Brittany Cartwright announced their separation on their shared podcast in late February 2024, and Bravo newcomers Jesse and Michelle Saniei Lally confirmed their break just a few weeks later.

Luke said he and Kristen hoped to see baby in the baby carriage before getting to the marriage part.

“Yeah, we both want [marriage] some day, and we want it when we feel like things have stabilized. But with Kristen’s timeline, her body clock, the baby’s more the priority,” Luke continued. “I know that she will be a fantastic mother, and I know we’ll both be dedicated to that child no matter what.”

Kristen on her pregnancy journey

In late 2023, Kristen revealed she suffered a “terrifying” miscarriage, though she and Luke are still trying to have a baby, she clarified in the After Show. Season 1 of The Valley has focused on Kristen’s ongoing concerns as she and Luke continue “actively trying” to bring a child into the world.

“Luke and I were working — and are still working — really hard on our fertility and having a child and figuring out what our next steps in our next five years look like,” Kristen said alongside former costar Scheana Shay. “What I’ve noticed within that journey of truly trying to get pregnant [is that] my circle needs to become a lot smaller.”

Kristen didn’t specify who would make the cull, though she could have meant her long-time frenemy Jax, who remains very vocal about worries over Kristen’s decision to become a mother.

“I was concerned,” Jax doubled down when speaking with Tom Schwartz and Tom Sandoval on the After Show. “You got no job, you live in an apartment with four dogs, your boyfriend is probably in town twice a month …”

Jax pointed out that a new baby would require health insurance and being fed three times a day.

“Kristen doesn’t even feed herself three times a day!” Jax continued.

The father-of-one reiterated what he said in Season 1, Episode 1 of The Valley, claiming Kristen was “rushing the situation” and that just two weeks before trying to get pregnant by Luke, she was trying to get pregnant by her ex-boyfriend, Alex Menache.

Kristen suggested Jax keep his nose in his own relationship with his now-estranged wife.

Kristen said sharing her pregnancy on The Valley was “harder than I thought it would be.”

“Luke and I, we have the best communication, so we have talked this through wholeheartedly on when to start,” said Kristen, adding that she and Luke sought medical assistance to help them along. She credited her boyfriend for understanding the “slight possibility” they would not conceive.

Who is Luke Broderick?

Luke is Kristen’s boyfriend and podcast co-host, who spends most of his time in Colorado, and is spending the summer at Kristen’s Los Angeles apartment, as highlighted on The Valley. Their visits even revolve around Kristen’s ovulation schedule, though Jax isn’t convinced the relationship will last.

“There’s nothing in writing,” Jax said. “What if he just takes off? Like, you’re not married.”

There’s no sign of Luke and Kristen tying the knot in the near future, but both are happy with their current situation.
